Peter Thomas Roth Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel for scalp shine

Peter Thomas Roth Mattifying GelAfter your scalp micropigmentation treatment, you may want to look into some matte products to reduce scalp shine. This is not an issue for everyone, but it can definitely make a difference to your overall appearance. This is especially true if you wet shave (or plan to wet shave) your scalp, or if you have oily skin that is prone to shine anyway.

This mattifying gel from Peter Thomas Roth is undoubtedly the most popular mattifying product for those with SMP. Costing around £30.00 ($50.00) for a small tube, it’s not exactly cheap, and to be honest when I first started using it I felt like I was being ripped off, but it really does last for a long time. To give you some sort of idea, one tube has lasted me four months so far. I don’t use it every day, perhaps 3-4 days per week, but this product represents much better value than I first thought.

In case you’re wondering, this product used to be sold in a small plastic bottle instead of the tube pictured (right). Its the same stuff, just in different packaging. The new tube format makes it easier to completely empty the last of its contents.

For what it’s worth, this is arguably the most talked-about product in the major scalp micropigmentation forums, and almost everyone agrees that this product is superb for those with SMP.

To use, squeeze a pea-sized lump out of the tube, warm it up by rubbing between the palms of your hands, and apply directly to your scalp. There is no need to rinse or wash off, just allow about 5 minutes for the gel to soak into your skin. From my own personal experience I found the benefits of this product to be instantaneous, and to last for up to 6 hours after application.

You should use this product whenever you feel the need. I use it before important meetings or events or when I’m going to be around groups of people, in fact its small size makes it really easy to keep in your pocket, bag or in your car. Some choose to use it every day; it’s up to you. Remember however that this product is not a moisturizer, so you’ll still need a separate product for that.
