FUE hair transplant patients, who have experienced poor work or further hair loss, are increasingly turning to SMP to camouflage their sometimes highly visible scars.
It is a subject we have covered in the past but, given the scale of advertising for FUE transplant surgeons these days, we thought it worth returning to a subject that is a steadily rising element of the work done by SMP clinics.
FUE Hair Transplantation Scars
Follecular Unitary Extraction, to give it’s full name, is a method for transplanting follecular units, usually comprising three hairs in each, from areas where the remaining hair is thicker to areas denuded by hair loss. The principal difference between FUE and early methods, as well as the tiny size of the transplanted section, is the tiny scars it leaves behind. Previously the scarring could be extensive and appear as wide stripes across the base of the back of the head, though the surgeon would take donor hairs from anywhere on the head they felt suitable… sometimes with shocking results. As you can see from the picture above, done well the scarring is minimal and the results can be impressive.
If the FUE client is fortunate they will experience little or no further loss of hair or density, as long as they don’t then the small scars left behind at the harvesting sites will remain invisible. It is fair to say that most however will experience some additional loss of condition over time… hair loss can advance and then stop for years before suddenly resuming progress. Until we can truly read DNA it is impossible to predict… by then presumably we will understand DNA well enough to simply instruct it to continue growing hair anyway.
How Can SMP Help?
As you can see from the pictures above, scarring after FUE is not only possible but unavoidable if you choose the wrong surgeon. At the same time you can also see how SMP has been used to both camouflage both sets of scars and treat the wider hair loss problem. In a terrible situation like this, where a client has invested many thousands of pounds into addressing their hair loss problem only to end up with a shocking scalp condition, SMP has proved a profound and life changing improvement.
